How many patients with wounds do you treat each week with diabetes over the age of 65?

Chronic wounds have impacted the quality life of diabetic patients as they require long-term care, placing a significant burden on our health care system1. Traditionally, wound care dressings in the community have been self-funded by patients to support their own care or provided by you, their local health care provider. The unfortunate outcome of this is that much more traditional treatment options have been used as cost is a large factor.

To address this wide-spread national problem, in May 2025, Australia will be launching its first ever Chronic Wound Care Consumables Scheme, funded by the Federal Government, to fund eligible diabetic patient’s consumable products through their health care providers.
